Happy Monday! So I’ve committed myself to a count down to Halloween but, I’m going to be very honest. This is really an opportunity to distract myself from the fact that in five days- on Halloween- I will be turning, 35! Praising the Lord for another year but, I have to say this is one of the tougher ages to prepare for!
There are many things that make getting older better. Seriously. Like realizing there are some pretty awesome folks in your life who have filled your days with laughter & memories. Kind of like these gals below.
This was last year for the not quite as daunting 34th birthday. I realized as I thought of this day sometimes all you need is your girlfriends & some chocolate & the day is just like any other. It’s a number. I don’t feel 35 and most of the time I don’t think I “act” 35… but, there are some days when I can tell I am definitely not 25… haha.
Halloween, however, is something that probably lessens the pain of this birthday. I have so much fun decorating the porch & yard for the tricker or treaters & staging all sorts of things for them to be like “whoa!” It’s just as bad when it comes to BAKING for Halloween.
They sell all sorts of things to accesorize your cupcakes. Some of the simplest things really make them come to life.
Any craft store such as Michael’s, JoAnnes, AC Moore, or Hobby Lobby usually stock their shelves with everything that Wilton makes!
Here are my suggestions for making some really creepy cupcakes without a lot of fuss:
- Get a box or two of your favorite cake mix because, why complicate it with a homemade recipe? Bake it with love & excitement and it will taste almost as good.
- While you’re at it grab a couple tubs of already made frosting. Check out the bakery section if you want something like a buttercream but, don’t feel like mixing your own.
- Drive to any of the above craft stores and start your search for an accessory!
- Include your kids or your roommates! They will have so much fun
- Post photo in the comments so I can enjoy with you!
Below, are some examples of cupcakes past that I think were a big hit!

these are also sold in a pack & so easy! Customize them for your friends or co-workers- they’ll love them as mine did!
Sometimes, you just want to be in the Fall/Halloween spirit though and any of the below will work! I made a pitstop at the Fresh Market and bought some random things that I thought would translate well and say “Trick or Treat!”

these require actual art skills.. but, so much fun! Icing and a piping bag will make it come to life!
Finally, your display can be a huge bonus. I had to have this when I saw it… it was like I instantly could see all the creepy Halloween things to be made!
So don’t delay! Make these today or tomorrow… or Wednesday or Thursday – there is still time! Post pictures in the comments of what you’re doing for Halloween this year! Check back tomorrow because, it’s gonna be day 2 of Halloween!
Happy Haunting!
